Adding images to a website or webpage is quite easy for most people. Upload it, position it, and you are done. Now, when the website is bombarded by images, you will need to create space between images since web browsers usually display images in a variety of ways based on the actual code of the website, be it HTML or CSS. Uploading images through the graphical user interface will automatically create the code but it will not space the images the way you want it to. The only way to really create the space between images that will suit your needs is to edit the HTML codes of your website or page. Here are some steps on how to do it.

Access your website. The first step of the process requires you to log on to your website server. This is basically dependent on how your website hosting provider's procedures. Some providers may have a control panel that you can access to modify the various aspects of your website while others may require you to use an FTP client such as Filezilla to modify your HTML file which is basically the most important file pertaining to how your website looks and displays over the Internet. In any case, log in and navigate to where the HTML file is located. Open the HTML file using either the online editor provided or download it and use Notepad to open it.

Locate the code pertaining to images. The HTML file will be filled with all kinds of code and if you are a novice, you may find the codes virtually unreadable. Since you are focused on the images on the site, search for the tag <IMG SRC>. Now to alter the space in between images, you will need to enable the alignment of the images by entering the code "ALIGN" which is an attribute that will allow you to code in the margins and spaces for the images. This should be entered as: <A HREF="http://webpage.com/image.gif" ALIGN="LEFT"> if you want to align a certain image to the left side (make sure the file name of the image is the actual name of the image file name on your site). Replace "LEFT" if you want to align the image to the right by typing in "RIGHT". To center the image, replace it with "CENTER".
Add more space. After adding the codes previously mentioned in step 2, save the file and try to view it using your browser. Now, it may be possible that the images you aligned are still either close or far away from each other. If that is the case, then you will want to modify the space in between. To do this, open the HTML file again and add the lines: <A HREF="http://webpage.com/image.gif" HSPACE="6" VSPACE="6"> under the tag labeled <IMG SRC>. Modifying the numbers in the code will either increase or decrease space between the images. "HSPACE" corresponds to the horizontal space while "VSPACE" corresponds to the vertical space.

Save the file once again and preview what you have done. If the website images are displayed correctly, then you are done. If not, then you might want to adjust the CSS file of the website as well. This may require another type of code so you may have to research more about this.
